Child Day Care and Community Center
Following the Tsunami, thousands of children, youth and their families found themselves incapable of continuing normal daily life and activities. Uprooted from their homes and separated from their former lives, children and youngsters found themselves in a state of neglect. As part of a fragile society, in which values, education, and social structures are crumbling, children and youth take an important role in rebuilding the future. Having to cope with post crisis effects along with the need to provide for their families without the experience or appropriate skills leads to increasing tendency to drug abuse, alcohol abuse, violence and other abnormal social behavior. In terms of social and economical community development, the face, structure and function of the community is established in the stage of adolescence.
The Project:
Two comprehensive community centers and one child day care center create a base for the development of a network of multi-purpose interventions (non formal education, recreational activities and also vocational training) to serve the various needs of the populations with special emphasis on the needs of children, youth and young adults.
Project Aims:

To operate self sustainable children and youth oriented programs and facilities run by local professionals and volunteers.

To deal with the social and emotional needs of young people struggling to pull their lives together under the post Tsunami scenario.

To provide various youth activities; non formal educational support, recreational activities, community involvement awareness, and vocational training.

To facilitate a training program in community center development with emphasis on volunteer work and leadership to professional and lay youth workers.

To supply ongoing training to a core group of the centers’ staff.

To establish partnerships with other organization in the area.

To assist in the development of the center, both in training and operations through developing long term international support from Brit Olam and other agencies and organizations. |
