Israel Extends it's Condolences to Iran Quake Victims

On early Friday morning in May while most people were still in their beds, an earthquake hit the southeastern area of the Iran, at 6.3 on the Richter scale, causing the deaths of approx 40 thousand people, and wounding many others. Power, water and telephone lines went down and blood donations had became vital. Efforts are now underway to bury the bodies of the deceased.

President Bush declared that the US would be willing to extend assistance to the stricken area, however given the lack of direct contact between the two governments it is unclear how this will be accomplished,

For its part, Israel extended it's condolences to Iran over the tragic earthquake that had caused so much damage and loss of life.  Initially, an Iranian diplomat accepted Israeli offers of assistance, but later on the Iranian government stated that it would not accept aid from the "Zionist entity". Nevertheless, Topaz has begun collecting contributions for children hurt by the earthquake (call: 03-6185581).

Many European countries have pledged their assistance to Pakistan, as have the UN and other relief agencies. In order to be more effective and avoid redundancy, these efforts are in the process of being coordinated. The Iranian Foreign Minister has stated that the resources his country needs most at present are search dogs, blankets and medicine.
