The Disaster in Haiti:
On January 12th, 2010, an earthquake, measuring seven on the Richter scale hit Haiti, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. The earthquake, described as "the most destructive" in the past 200 years, has cost the lives of hundreds of thousands. Approximately three million people had been affected, directly or indirectly, from the earthquake and its aftermath and became refugees in their own country.
Natan - Israeli Coalition for International Humanitarian Aid: Natan – the Israeli Coalition for International Humanitarian Aid, was established in memory of Abie Nathan, the father and founder of the Israeli humanitarian volunteer movement, and operates in the spirit of his legacy. Natan incorporates leader medical, social and humanitarian institutions in Israel.

Program activities Humanitarian assistance delegations:
On the third day of the disaster, Natan sent the first humanitarian aid delegation to the area. It was led by Henry Alkslsi, Prof. Eli Schwartz, Adi Ramot and Adi Aston, all experienced volunteers in international humanitarian aid operations. The delegation was based in Port de Prince, serving humanitarian aid and medical assistance, and helping in the Israeli military hospital.
A second delegation was sent to Haiti on January 22nd. The delegation was led by Dr. Moshe Farchi, head of trauma at Tel Hai College. It included doctors, paramedics, mental health therapists, community workers and trauma support staff.
A third delegation was sent to Haiti on February 4th. Led by Maya Haskal.
A fourth delegation was sent to Haiti on February 17th. Led by
Dr. Sharon Kronfeld Shaul.
A fifth delegation was sent to Haiti on March 6th. Led by
Nir Sarig. A sixth delegation was sent to Haiti on Wednesday April 7th. Led by
Naama Shilo.
Main activities:
The main goal of the program is to deliver life-saving materials and to launch a monthly humanitarian aid delegation comprising of Israeli volunteers. In each delegation there will be approximately 10 volunteers, practicing medicine, trauma care, child care and social and community rehabilitation.
During 2010, The Natan coalition will send twelve more delegations to assist with the multidisciplinary rehabilitation needed in Haiti.

All Natan's operations are carried out on a 100 % voluntary basis.
All participants in Natan's delegations are volunteers and carry out their mission in the most efficient and effective manner possible. We will operate jointly to recruit and operate this aid operation, for the victims of one of the worst natural disasters that has befallen our world in recent times.
Natan headquarters, combined by a broad partnership of humanitarian aid organizations, medical institutions, organizations and logistics staff, are working around the clock to promote humanitarian aid for the victims of the terrible disaster
Assistance and Donations: Donations for the 'Giving Hope to Haiti' operation can be made through Brit Olam and Topaz, who are coordinating the joint fundraising. The accounts are supervised by a team of accountants and lawyers, who are trustees of the operation.
