Many public figures and celebrities have volunteered to take part in order to increase public awareness to the hardship of the refugees.
There are approximately 18 thousand refugees in Israel today coming from various country in Africa. Government persecution, murder acts and extreme poverty have forced them to leave their homes and lands seeking safety in Israel. Thise who have reached Israel are now faced with a very difficult reality. Israel still has no clear policy regarding the status and rights of refugees, therefore their life here is dim and their future unknown. Thousands seeking refuge are still held in detention with no release date while others live with no recognized status, work permit or access to much needed health, welfare, housing or legal services. Close to 20% of the refugee population are women around the ages of 15 – 35. Many come on their own, even pregnant, some having been raped on the way. Over 200 are born every year to such women. These women have many difficulties adjusting and are extremely lonely due to the distance from their home, family and community; cultural gaps; language difficulties; age and more. Since these women are not entitled to health and welfare services in Israel and cannot pay private insurance they suffer during pregnancy and the first stages raising their child. There are approximately 2000 refugee children, who like their parents are not entitled to basic health and welfare services. About 200 out of those are unaccompanied young people who arrived on their own with no relatives. These young people are constantly at risk as they have no support and the government is completely ignoring their needs. They are not involved in the education system and work in order to support themselves in terms of food and rent. AMIRAM INC.had their first album LITTLE DEFECTS out in 2007, produced by Gil Smetana in cooperation with Lief Johnson, musical producer of AHA and Pete Abott, who is the drummer fro Tom Jones. The album was recorded in Israel, England and Norway and received excellent reviews from the public and press, particularly die to their unique and captivating sound which incorporates rock with Nordic Irish influences.
Band soloist AMiram EIni, initiated and designed this project and all work of the band, photographers, producers, studios etc. has been done voluntarily. Some celebrities whoi have taken part are: Guy Pinness, Michal Yanai, Miki Rozental, Ilana Berkowitz, Raz Meirman, Amir Fey Gutman, Kabra Kassai and many more.
